So I can make it work with my blog posts - just not with the profile part :( - The picture shown below is one I did for my last boyfriend ... obviously ex boyfriend because I'm single now. I just did some really cute pictures for him. I like them so I thought I'd use them for my profile... well if anyone has any ideas let me know!

Heya! Great picture! We really need to get professional pictures taken, it's been... well, since we got married! Okay, I think this is how you add a picture in your side bar. Go to your template. Click "Add a Page Element" (should be over in your sidebar area). Then click "picture". You should then be able to add you picture. You can drag it wherever you want on the sidebar. The picture will definitely have to be smaller than it is now, otherwise it will get cut off. I had to resize mine quite a few times to get it to fit. Hope this helps!
If that doesn't work here's another option.
On the main page of your blog dashboard you'll see where you can edit your profile, go there. 3rd section is Photograph. This is where you will enter the link to your picture.
To get the link go to http://www.imageshack.us/
-Browse to select the picture.
-Host it
Then copy and paste the last link "direct link to image."
That should do it without having to resize.
